Logon Security and Interface
Business Overview:
Although SharePoint and ISA (Internet Security and Acceleration Server) are Microsoft products, they do not automatically work together. However, because the entrance to SharePoint services are web based, our client (a large, multinational company with facilities in most major countries) wanted to have internet access available for employees who were not on the main site.
With ISA’s very thorough capabilities of firewalling and permission setting, our client wanted integration with the SharePoint portal and ISA.
Solution:
SoftControl’s solution was to create an entrance portal which would not only ensure the security of the site, but would also be functional and branded appropriately.
ISA’s security features are implemented without compromise to its integrated firewall and protection policies. We integrated ISA’s features so employees of each work group are given permission to access the documents and areas appropriate to their function. Furthermore, each group is given a “home page” which immediately gives them access to the features they use the most, improving work flows.
Finally, the portal home page is implemented with the client’s logo & colors, complete even with the company’s current stock prices which are pulled real time from the internet.

Documentation – Management & Retrieval
Business Overview:
SharePoint’s major feature is to allow users to collaborate on documents, allowing them to share, spread or improve information within the company. SharePoint has its own way of doing this, which does not necessarily fit into the workflows of your groups. Our client wanted tools which would allow their employees to easily find information they regularly use, and be able to quickly search for information which is relevant to their job functions.
Solution:
SoftControl teamed up with our client to develop workgroup driven library functions. This included a latest document tool, an index tool and a user edited content relevance tool.
Latest Document Tool: The Latest Document Tool gives users a list on their home page of all the documents which had been recently updated for their workgroups. This allows the users to quickly scan to see if there are any changes to documents they have ownership or responsibility for, and can even see if there have been any changes in company policy documents which would affect them.
Index Tool: The Index Tool was created to allow users to click on an alphabetized lettering system (“A”, “B”, “C”, etc.) which shows them a list of all the keywords beginning with that letter which had been entered into the SharePoint system.
TOC Tool: Finally, we implemented a Table of Contents (TOC) Tool which allows users to logically put together groups of documents. The user can go into the complete list of documents and select the documents which are relevant to their subject. They can then create a TOC which has these documents set up in the hierarchy they have selected.

Admin Security and Productivity
Business Overview:
One difficult part of user administration with larger companies is the number of applications a user must be set up on to do their job tasks. This can become a security issue if the users are given too much access to information on one or multiple applications.
Our client wanted a more elegant solution which would simplify administrative procedures/workflows, and reduce security risks due to human mistakes.
Solution:
SoftControl developed an interface which linked user administration for all corporate programs. Within one screen, our client could add a user to a work group, and then have their permissions set appropriately across all selected applications.
